We tend to associate the unknown with fear and loss of control, yet in reality, it is the environment where innovation happens; it is a deliberate choice to leave behind the familiar and comfortable, but if we think of it, it is the blank canvas waiting for the first stroke. In this space, nothing has been created yet, and anything is possible.

Why do humans think that pain, suffering, and sacrifice please the Divine?

Humans tend to attribute human characteristics to the Supreme Being and tend to see suffering and sacrifice as proof of devotion, the price to pay for divine favor, compassion, or forgiveness. By enduring pain, they transform their resilience into an offering—something they perceive as meaningful and valuable.

What if pain is not only linked to a devotional concept? The purpose of pain in protecting our physical bodies is clear, but is there a metaphysical need for pain? A purposeful mechanism for the evolution of the soul or consciousness? From a more transcendental perspective, it appears to act as a catalyst for internal transformation by creating the necessary contrast for the soul to recognize and value peace, joy, and empathy. In a dualistic reality (hot, cold, light, dark), to know a concept, it is necessary to know its opposite. Without the experience of pain, the concept of “well-being” would have no meaning. Pain provides the depth and nuance that allow joy to be appreciated.

I understand the purpose of pain; the question is: How about degenerative conditions like Parkinson’s, which prevent the person from functioning and expressing their abilities in the pursuit of evolution? What is the metaphysical purpose for Spirit to disable, disempower its own body? A challenging question in spiritual philosophy. If the purpose of the “avatar” (the body) is to express the “Spirit’s” potential, the systematic dismantling of that avatar seems like a contradiction.

Metaphysics, however, suggests that the most significant evolution occurs not through what we do, but through who we become when we can no longer function in our usual way.

The Shift from "Doing" to "Being"

In the physical world, we often mistake our identity for our abilities—our art, our work, or our physical dexterity. A degenerative condition strips away these external attributions. When the “Doer” is disabled, the Soul questions itself: “Who am I if I can no longer produce?” The question forces the Soul to find its meaning in pure existence rather than in achievement.

Control is an illusion maintained by a healthy body. A progressing, ailing physical condition forces the subject to surrender, to shift from control to trust. For the Soul, the “evolution” here is the release of the ego’s need to dictate terms to the natural course of life. It is the challenge of maintaining inner peace and dignity while the external machine fails to follow orders.

Updated Priorities

When the ephemeral (career, social recognition, grand projects) is no longer available, the person needs to evaluate their priorities. This is the appreciation of a single breath, the momentary absence of pain, the significance of having close friends or family in our lives, a moment of clarity between waves of fog… In this state, the soul learns to find new meaning in what it took for granted. It is now a transition from seeking quantity of experience to depth of value.

The body in the physical world is so convincing that we forget we are Spirit. If the body remained perfect and powerful forever, we would never seek to “know ourselves,” to be aware of our true nature manifesting at higher frequency levels.

The gradual disabling of our Physical vessel is a slow transition. It allows the “I Am” to slowly grasp the riddles of the physical world so that, when the time comes to transcend the physical plane, the Soul doesn’t experience the shock of being ripped away but rather the relief of letting go of unnecessary weight.

Young cashiers at the supermarket usually ask me: ” How’s your day going so far? Are you planning something exciting for today?” At first, I felt awkward. What could I possibly answer? I lead a simple, mindful life, run errands, prepare wholesome meals, do some exercise, and work on creative personal projects. I find purpose and meaning in the unhurried present moment, but to some in a young generation, that might not seem exciting at all. Our contemporary culture has vigorously marketed the idea that a well-lived life should involve constant stimulation, new people, new experiences, and endless bucket-list achievements. The lifestyle portrayed in movies showing private jets, beach parties, and constant movement confuses stimulation with fulfillment, creating a cycle in which the thrills have to get bigger and bigger to avoid feeling empty.

The Trap of the Fast Lane.

When the next thrill determines meaning, the still moments in between become unbearable. This is why so many in that highly privileged, fast-lane demographic struggle with anxiety and depression. They have structured their lives so loudly that they cannot tolerate silence. When the music stops and the jet lands, they are left alone with themselves, and that isolation is daunting.

Trusting the Present Moment.

So, how do we confirm our purpose? A good start is when our daily actions align with our values and natural talents, when something carries a positive meaning. Meaning is subjective and changes with age, culture, and circumstances, yet it is sometimes perceived as a still-abiding center rather than a constant diversion.

When we follow the feeling of the present moment, we allow the synchronicity to take place. It could be a simple choice, such as having a cup of coffee. Then, while enjoying the moment, we decide to call a friend, who may bring good news that benefits us. The possibilities are endless. When the feeling of the present moment comes from our heart and is not a rational decision, that feeling determines our next step and the next; as we follow our hunch, everything is synchronized for us to be at the right place, with the right people, at the right time to fulfill a purpose.

Awareness is the vast, silent space of existence. Purpose is what we decide to do with it.

Beyond the Bestseller.

There is a widespread consensus that a book’s success depends upon the number of copies sold. A blockbuster, capable of selling millions, can indeed bring significant gratification to the author and substantial profit to all involved in its creation. However, the rewards inherent in the art of writing extend beyond mere economic gain. The act of writing, far from being a purely mental exercise, impacts the author on multiple levels: physiological, psychological, and, some might argue, metaphysical.

The Therapeutic Power of Words.

Writing is fundamentally an act of introspection and self-reflection. By examining their thoughts and experiences, authors can cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves, facilitating a connection with their inner selves and allowing them to explore their most profound beliefs and values.

Depending on the genre, the creative process can be a transcendent experience for some, creating a sense of connection to something greater than themselves.

Transcribing thoughts and feelings onto paper can provide a sense of catharsis. Writing allows individuals to process and comprehend their emotions. Expressive writing, particularly when addressing stressful or traumatic experiences, can be considered a therapeutic tool. It offers an outlet for expressing feelings, thereby enabling individuals to gain a sense of control and closure.

Journaling serves as a private resource for some people in managing anxiety, loneliness, and other mental health challenges. Crafting narratives or documenting salient aspects of one’s life can impart a sense of purpose and meaning.

A Legacy.

Specific authors may find meaning in the notion that their writing allows them to preserve ideas, stories, and personal experiences that can endure beyond their own lifetimes.

The true wealth of writing, then, lies not in the numbers but in the meaningful personal journey it unlocks. It’s an opportunity available to everyone, regardless of their background or audience. So, what story, what insight, and what whisper within you are waiting to be given form? Don’t let it linger in the inkwell of your mind. You might discover a reward far more significant than you imagined.
